Yes, it may be a lot worse, the patient knows that! They may never run again or will need back surgery. Whether they have a simple ankle sprain or a debilitating lower back injury, they aren’t likely to be focusing on how much worse things could get. Instead, patients are worried about the diagnosis, the healing process, are they going to get better, the treatment program, the cost of care, if they can still work and an assortment of those fears.
